Basic Library Skills Training: 2020 Summer Library Program Workshop

 Join Robin Hargrave, youth and school services coordinator, and guest presenters Cydney Clink and Micaela Sanchez at Wichita’s Exploration Place to explore reading and learning opportunities for your 2020 Summer Library Program, “Imagine Your Story.” Discover how to incorporate fairy tales, mythology, fantasy books and activities as you plan and enjoy the Exploration Place’s stimulating educational environment, including museum exhibits, a movie in the Digital Dome Theatre and two special hands-on activities.

Throughout this action-packed, inspirational workshop, you will:
• Identify and brainstorm ideas for the summer reading theme
• Select 1-3 adaptable programs, events, or activities for children and teens
• Create hands-on crafts to take back to your library

8:30 - 9:00 Registration and refreshments
9:00 - 10:45 Programming Ideas presentation in Kemper Creative Learning Studio
11:00 - 11:30 Finding and Evaluating Performers in Kemper Creative Learning Studio
11:30 - 12:30 Enjoy a complimentary boxed lunch and Exploration Place attractions
12:30 - 1:30 Your choice: Digital Dome Theater movie at 12:30 (get there early; food/drink allowed), museum attractions, gift shop, or passive programming displays in Explorer Classroom
1:30 - 3:00 Summer Reading to Summer Learning presentation and activity in Explorer Classroom

Registration is limited to 80 participants and the deadline for registration is Tuesday, February 11, 2020. Light refreshments and an optional lunch will be offered compliments of SCKLS. This event will meet at Kemper Creative Learning Studio in the Exploration Place, located at 300 N. McLean Blvd. in Wichita. For more information about Exploration Place: https://exploration.org/

Basic Library Skills Trainings (BLaST) are programs designed for new librarians and library staff that cover fundamental skills and basic library services. When you register for eligible trainings, be sure to indicate that you want BLaST Certificate credit. Once you have completed a minimum of 12 eligible trainings, SCKLS will issue you a Basic Library Skills Training (BLaST) Certificate.
