|Basic Library Skills Training: Youth Services--Building the Foundation|
Event Type: Continuing Education|
Start Time: 9:00 AM
End Time: 12:00 PM
As a youth services library team member, you have the opportunity to build a fun, supportive and literacy-enriched environment for your youngest patrons. Sounds simple enough, but we all know it’s a big job! You need the right tools in your toolbox and a foundational understanding of youth services and programs specifically designed for infants to 18 year-olds in a public or school library setting.
Join Robin Hargrave, youth and school services consultant, as you construct a basic understanding of youth services roles and responsibilities. Also, dig into current trends and resources that create a positive learning environment and promote literacy.
As an active participant, you will learn how to:
• Compare and contrast the purpose of youth services in public and school libraries as well as generate ideas about how public libraries and school libraries may support and complement mutual objectives through collaboration
• Access age-appropriate, quality resources to create an annual programming calendar
• Apply state educational and ALA standards to drive instruction and planning
• Integrate online resources to support young readers, researchers and career planners.
Whether you’re new to library youth services or just need a refresher, you are sure to build confidence and fill your toolbox with new ideas at this Basic Library Skills Training (BLaST) program.
