|Basic Library Skills Training: Professional Development--A Lifelong Journey|
Event Type: Continuing Education|
Start Time: 9:30 AM
End Time: 11:30 AM
If you work in a library, you know that any 21st century library position requires a robust skill set, including strong interpersonal skills, an advanced knowledge of technology, proficiency in collection development, readers’ advisory, programming, community outreach and so much more—not to mention time-management. You understand that there is no finish line to continuing education or professional development. It is a lifelong journey!
Join a group of like-minded professionals and facilitator Katherine Hughes, SCKLS training specialist, as we embark on this journey to identify personal learning gaps and explore valuable ways to fill those gaps. Together, we will discover and navigate resources available for quality, self-initiated and self-paced professional development.
In this hands-on workshop, you will:
• Practice using six questions as a guide to focused, effective, and ongoing professional development
• Assess your strengths, identify learning opportunities, and create a goal to drive your library learning—enabling you to better serve your patrons and community
• Explore a variety of no- or low-cost resources to support your learning goals
Who should attend? Any library staff member with a desire to learn and grow. This workshop's content may be especially helpful to staff who are new to the library world, who are seeking a learning direction, or who have learning goals that they don't know quite how to pursue. Come journey with us!
