|Basic Library Skills Training: Children's Story Time Workshop|
Event Type: Continuing Education|
Start Time: 9:00 AM
End Time: 12:00 PM
It’s time for a new story time year! Glean fresh ideas about stories, crafts, songs and movement activities to enliven and enhance your programming at SCKLS’s Children’s Story Time Workshop. A spotlight on scarves in story time will prepare you to use scarves with songs and activities to boost participation, movement, rhythm and fun! Also, be sure to plan ahead to share story time ideas with fellow librarians in a supportive setting. Please bring a story book and coordinating craft or activity to share with the group.
During this energetic, hands-on workshop, you will:
• Learn and rehearse scarf songs and activities for story time
• Share and discuss successful story time books and crafts
• Create a color wheel for color concepts in story time
If you’re looking for fall programming inspiration, be sure to join co-presenters Robin Hargrave, SCKLS youth and school services consultant, and Darcie Canfield-Riggs, youth services librarian at Hutchinson Public Library, at this workshop designed for any library professional who works with children.
Darcie Canfield-Riggs is the youth services librarian at Hutchinson Public Library (HPL). This is her fifth year at HPL, and she enjoys programming weekly story times for babies and toddlers, a monthly STEAM program, special programs for teens, and coordinates the YA Advisory Board. Darcie received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Kansas State University and her Master of Library Science from Emporia State University. She enjoys stories in a variety of formats: reading, TV, movies, and podcasts. When time allows, she enjoys crafting and going on adventures with her family. Darcie lives in Hutchinson with her husband, three children, and two dogs.
