Event Type: Continuing Education|
Start Time: 9:00 AM
End Time: 11:30 AM
Does your library have old or fragile books, photographs or documents that you're unsure how to handle? You know they contain information to which future generations deserve access. But how to begin? Join Sharon Barnes, SCKLS technology consultant, as she guides you through preservation best practices and demonstrates techniques and materials for preserving your special collections.
In this comprehensive session, you will learn how to:
• Identify items in the library's collection that may be at risk
• Understand what steps to take to protect them
• Learn basic cleaning tasks that can be safely done in-house
• Plan for future preservation
Basic Library Skills Trainings (BLaST) are programs designed for new librarians and library staff that cover fundamental skills and basic library services. Access the following document for more information about BLaST and future BLaST trainings, https://sckls.info/DocumentCenter/View/1836. When you register, be sure to indicate that you want BLaST Certificate credit for your attendance at the "Basic Preservation" workshop. Once you have completed a minimum of eight Core Trainings and four Optional Trainings, SCKLS will issue you a Basic Library Skills Training (BLaST) Certificate. Registration is limited to 16 participants and the deadline for registration is Tuesday, March 26, 2019. Light refreshments will be offered compliments of SCKLS.
