|Book Discussion in March|
Event Type: Continuing Education|
Start Time: 11:30 AM
End Time: 1:00 PM
Book discussion groups are places for readers to come together to talk about books. There is no better way to share a love of reading. And, for the most part, who loves to read more than a librarian? You are cordially invited to join staff members from other SCKLS libraries in reading and discussing a relevant book of interest. Topics to explore may include library culture, skills for the workplace, inspiration, motivation and/or empathy.
Our goals for each book discussion are to provide you with motivation and time to:
• Connect with other member librarians
• Analyze skills and ideas for the profession and for personal growth
• Master book discussion skills
• Support the library's mission of fostering lifelong learning
Robyn Bravi, technology consultant and YA aficionado, will moderate this year's first book discussion. SCKLS will provide you with a copy of the book, The Library Book by Susan Orlean, a month prior to the discussion.
"An investigation of the fire that devastated the Los Angeles Public Library in 1986 evolves into a page-turning history of the immense impact libraries and books have had throughout time. Profoundly moving and enlightening, and a clear call to readers to appreciate and support their libraries. For readers who enjoy high-quality narrative nonfiction."
~Jesica Sweedler DeHart for LibraryRead, retrieved from NoveList Plus.
Registration is limited to 25 participants. Deadline for registration is Friday, February 8, 2019. An optional lunch will be provided compliments of SCKLS to enjoy during the book discussion, or you are invited to bring your own lunch. If you are interested in joining the book discussion but you have missed open registration, please contact Katherine Hughes, firstname.lastname@example.org. If space is available, you may join the discussion, but you will need to provide your own book and lunch.
