|Basic Library Skills Training: Core Values for Library Service|
Event Type: Continuing Education|
Start Time: 9:00 AM
End Time: 12:00 PM
Our patrons have definite expectations of modern libraries. But what guides these expectations and informs today’s best practices? Join SCKLS Director Paul Hawkins to explore these questions and to learn about service, stewardship, access, confidentiality/privacy and intellectual freedom. These core values will be explained and applied in terms of how they define and determine how we each provide library services on a daily basis.
In this comprehensive session, you will:
• Identify and define five core values of librarianship
• Explore how core values inform and guide your daily work
• Examine applicable laws, policies and practices that support core values
Whether you are new to your library’s staff or might benefit from reflective review of these essential values, you are sure to increase your library knowledge base by attending this Basic Library Skills Training (BLaST) program. An optional complimentary lunch is included with your registration.
Basic Library Skills Trainings (BLaST) are programs designed for new librarians and library staff that cover fundamental skills and basic library services. Access the following document for more information about BLaST and future BLaST trainings, https://sckls.info/DocumentCenter/View/1836. When you register, be sure to indicate that you want BLaST Certificate credit for your attendance at the “Core Values for Library Services” workshop. Once you have completed a minimum of eight Core Trainings and four Optional Trainings, SCKLS will issue you a Basic Library Skills Training (BLaST) Certificate. Registration is limited to 16 participants and the deadline for registration is Thursday, February 7, 2019. Light refreshments and an optional lunch will be offered compliments of SCKLS.
