Are you new to interacting with young patrons? Are you looking for an overview of services and programs specifically designed for infants to 18 year-olds in a public or school library setting? Then this training is for you! Join Robin Hargrave, Youth and School Services Consultant, as she covers basic information about developing young readers as well as age-specific programming, collection development, physical space management, and customer service techniques that create a positive learning environment and promote literacy.
In this comprehensive session, you’ll learn how to:
• Compare and contrast the purpose of youth services in public and school libraries as well as generate ideas about how public libraries and school libraries may support and complement mutual objectives through collaboration
• Access age-appropriate, quality resources to create an annual programming calendar
• Use state educational and ALA standards to drive instruction and planning
• Understand how space management can promote an environment of mutual respect and enjoyment in your library
